Technical Information
My use of cameras throughout the years spanned the whole spectrum from 35-mm to a (large format) 4x5 camera, and finally the Canon 5D for my current digital work. Using the large format cameras provided me with the flexibility I needed to develop each negative to the proper contrast based on the existing lighting conditions, subject matter, and my “pre-visualization” of the scene in a two-dimensional, printed form as championed by Ansel Adams. This was the single most significant aspect of my photographic evolution, enhancing my ability to understand the importance of proper exposure and film development. Most of the medium and large format images were shot on Kodak TMax and Ilford Delta films, printed on Ilford Multigrade IV paper.
All photographs are printed using an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer with Ultrachrome K3 pigment inks and archival papers. Many of the photographs are produced from scans of medium and large format negatives; the remainder are photographed with a Canon 5D and more recently with a Canon 5D Mark II digital camera and developed using the Camera RAW feature of Photoshop (CS4). All prints are personally printed and processed by me to order.
